Summarize several high salt wastewater treatment methods

      The treatment of high salinity wastewater is a complex and important environmental task, with various treatment methods, each with its unique advantages and applicable scenarios. The following are several common methods for treating high salt wastewater:

      1、 Domestication treatment:

      Under the condition of salinity less than 2g/L, saline wastewater may be treated through domestication. However, the domestication of salinity concentration must be gradually increased, and the system must be domesticated to the required salinity level in stages. Sudden high salt environments can cause domestication failure and delayed initiation.


;     Since high salt becomes an inhibitory and toxic agent for microorganisms, diluting the influent to lower the salinity below the toxicity threshold will not inhibit biological treatment. This method is simple, easy to operate and manage; Its disadvantages are increasing processing scale, increasing infrastructure investment, increasing operating costs, and wasting water resources.

      3. Evaporation and concentration desalination:

      When the salinity is greater than 2g/L, evaporation and concentration desalination is the most economical and effective feasible method. Other methods such as cultivating salt containing bacteria have the problem of being difficult to operate in industrial practice.

      4、 Biological methods:

      Many studies have shown that biological methods can treat high salinity wastewater. But from low salt to high salt, microorganisms have an adaptation period. When transitioning from a freshwater environment to a high salt environment, changes in salt levels may cause alterations in microbial metabolic pathways. As a result, the selection of bacterial strains results in fewer strains that are adapted to high salt levels. Only after the microorganisms have been cultured and domesticated can they produce strains that are adapted to high salt levels and can tolerate certain salt concentrations.
