Baihuipu has built one integrated seawater salt production + aquatic wastewater treatment project in Male Atoll, adopting Baihuipu Pure Vacuum Evaporation Salt Machine with a salt production capacity of 3 tons/day and supporting treatment of 20 tons/day of saline wastewater from aquatic processing. In the project, seawater enters the vacuum evaporation system after pretreatment, producing edible sea salt through low-temperature evaporation and crystallization; aquatic processing wastewater enters the system after pretreatment, simultaneously realizing wastewater concentration, salt crystallization recovery and condensed water reuse. Since commissioning, the equipment has operated stably for 12 months with stable sea salt production and purity of ≥99.2%, meeting Maldivian edible salt standards. Condensed water from treated aquatic wastewater is 100% reused in production and cleaning, achieving "zero discharge"; recovered waste salt is 100% reused in the salt production process, forming a closed-loop cycle. The project has significantly reduced the Maldives’ dependence on imported salt, saving foreign exchange expenditure, while solving the pollution problem of aquatic processing wastewater. It has received high praise from the Maldives Ministry of Fisheries and Water Resources, becoming a benchmark project for seawater salt production and waste salt reuse in Indian Ocean island countries.
