LiPF6 Electrolyte Production Wastewater Treatment: Hydrogen Fluoride, Phosphorus and Anhydrous Wash

LiPF6 is made by reacting lithium fluoride with phosphorus pentachloride or by reacting hydrogen fluoride with phosphorus compounds, and the product is so sensitive to water that the whole plant runs dry. The water that leaves is small in volume and concentrated in consequence. Scrubber and wash water carries hydrogen fluoride traces, the phosphorus fraction, and the solvent carryover from the product handling. Equipment flushing adds the dilute fraction. The effluent is fluoride-rich, acidic and chemically hostile, and the design that works neutralises and precipitates the fluoride with calcium before anything else, because fluoride that reaches the biology does not degrade and does not leave.

A Small, Hostile Stream

Scrubber and wash water carries hydrogen fluoride traces and the phosphorus fraction. It is the strongest stream in the plant and it is the smallest by volume.

Equipment flushing and maintenance water adds the dilute fraction, warm and slightly acidic, arriving in slugs from the cleaning schedule.

Product handling and packaging wash water carries the electrolyte solvent and the fluoride traces that come with it.

treatment plant on site

Floor washing adds volume rather than load, and its contribution is the hydraulic design of the whole plant. Much of this mirrors the situation set out in peanut processing plant wastewater treatment.

Neutralisation and Fluoride Precipitation

pH correction comes before anything else. Lime dosing lifts the water above the range where the downstream chemistry works, and the mixing has to be real.

settling tank detail

The fluoride is precipitated with calcium at controlled pH, and the dose is set by jar test rather than assumption. Fluoride is invisible in the daily results until the consent letter arrives.

The calcium fluoride sludge is a modest volume and a predictable cost, and it is disposed of as a classified waste in most jurisdictions.

Phosphorus and Solvent

The phosphorus fraction is precipitated with the same calcium dose where the consent requires it, and the combined sludge is thickened and disposed of as a solid.

process equipment overview

Solvent carryover is recovered by skimming or distillation where the volume justifies it, and the recovered solvent returns to the product handling circuit. If your site also runs this kind of duty, Cashew Nut Processing Wastewater Treatment system covers the cost side of the decision in more depth.

Measured Results from Plants We Built

For comparison, our 2021 project in Taishan, Guangdong ran at 5 m³/day with influent COD near 1,000 mg/L and treated water around 50 mg/L. That is 95% removal in practice, not on paper.

Figures are site-measured values from commissioned plants, not modelled estimates.

Where the solvent trace persists, an adsorption step polishes the clarified water, and its size is decided by the trace that survived recovery rather than by the main load.

Operating Notes

Precipitate the fluoride first. Fluoride that reaches the biology does not degrade and does not leave. Much of this mirrors the situation set out in Salt Brine, Fermentation Liquor and Colour.

Jar-test the calcium dose against the real effluent. The fluoride chemistry is narrow, and drifting outside it is invisible until the result arrives.

Recover the solvent where you can. Every litre recovered is a litre not discharged, and the arithmetic is simple. Where several streams need joint treatment, maple syrup production wastewater treatment is the more detailed reference.

Where This Fits in the Wider Plant

The same selection criteria reappear in plant-based milk production wastewater treatment, which is worth opening alongside this one. Most facilities do not run a single clean stream, and a shared equalisation and biological stage is usually the economical answer once the streams are chemically compatible.

Why Choose Baihuipu as Your Manufacturer

Picking a supplier for this kind of plant is mostly about who carries the risk when something goes wrong. We have built this equipment for more than twenty years, and we are the ones who fabricated it, programmed the controls and will still answer the phone three years from now.

Manufacturing Base in Guangdong

Owned production lines mean we control tolerances, materials and delivery. Standard modular units and bespoke skids are both built by our own people, so schedule commitments are ours to keep.

Twenty-Plus Export Markets

We have shipped to the United States, Canada, Russia, Indonesia, India, Nigeria and Vietnam among others. Crating, export documentation and certificates are handled in-house, which keeps customs surprises to a minimum.

Two Decades of Field Data

Food and beverage, chemicals, electroplating, textile dyeing, mining, municipal work — we have commissioned across all of them. The useful part is not the project count, it is having seen how plants fail in year seven and designing those failures out.

We Engineer the Whole Train

Screening, equalisation, biological or chemical treatment, membranes, evaporation, brine handling — the complete line comes from one organisation. Process design, mechanical, electrical and PLC programming sit under the same roof, so there is no gap for finger-pointing at handover.

Spare Parts and After-Sales Support

We carry membranes, pumps, blowers, diffusers and instruments for every system we supply. Remote support through the PLC is standard on most builds, and on-site service covers commissioning, training and urgent callouts.

Documentation You Can Actually Audit

Each system ships with as-built drawings, material certificates, welding records and a functional specification. If a client's own consultant wants to review the process calculation basis, we hand it over rather than treating it as proprietary.

Certification and Export Practice

CE marking is standard and we work to ISO 9001 procedures. Where a project calls for specific material grades, pressure vessel certification or ATEX-rated equipment, we build to that standard and ship the full documentation pack.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you work with our existing equipment?

Often yes. We regularly integrate into existing civil structures where the concrete is sound, replacing internals and controls rather than starting over. We will tell you honestly when legacy kit is beyond economic repair.

What happens if the incoming LiPF6 electrolyte production load exceeds the design figure?

Load swings are the most common reason plants underperform. We set the design envelope from your worst-case samples, not your average ones, and specify enough buffer in the biological stage to ride out shocks. If your process genuinely shifts up permanently, we can usually add capacity in stages.

How much operator attention does the system need day to day?

Automatic control handles dosing, backwash and level control. Realistically your team spends time on chemical top-up, sample testing and sludge handling — maybe one to two hours per shift on LiPF6 electrolyte production duty, less if you opt for remote monitoring.

Is LiPF6 electrolyte production treatment suitable for water reuse?

Usually yes, once the neutralisation and fluoride precipitation stage is stable. Reuse normally means adding membrane polishing to bring conductivity and COD down to your process water specification. We would need to see your reuse water limits to size it properly.

What does it cost to run, per cubic metre?

Energy dominates, then chemicals, then sludge disposal. We give you a per-cubic-metre breakdown during proposal so you can compare it against your sewer charge — treating too aggressively is a common and expensive mistake.
